Home Burglary Escalates to Armed Robbery

On Tuesday June 28th at 10:52 a.m. the Folsom Police Department responded to an armed robbery which had just occurred in the 800 block of Willowcreek Drive in Folsom.

The homeowner confronted a man inside her home, after which he aimed a handgun at her and said “go to your room and close the door”. The victim and her boyfriend were able to flee safely out the back of the single family home.

Officers quickly arrived in the area and set up a perimeter. A canine team searched the neighborhood, and with residents pointing out the direction in which the suspect ran, were able to locate him within twenty minutes of starting their search. The suspect was found hiding under a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on Bittercreek Drive.

Evidence recovered at the scene linked the juvenile to the burglary, however, no weapon was found.

The 16 year old suspect was later determined to have been reported as a runaway in Sacramento County. He was charged with Robbery, Burglary, and False Imprisonment and booked into the Sacramento County Youth Detention Center.

The Folsom Police Department reminds residents that it’s a safe habit to always keep your doors and windows locked when not in use. Burglars will always choose the easiest target and won’t know your home until it’s too late.
