Salvation Army Thanksgiving Meals Support Folsom-Area Families

Folsom residents who need a place to share Thanksgiving can join Salvation Army Thanksgiving meals in Sacramento and Auburn this week. The faith-based charity plans to serve thousands of Thanksgiving meals across Northern California, so no one has to celebrate alone.

The Salvation Army says it served 3.4 million meals across Northern California in 2024. This week it adds holiday gatherings, food distributions and community dinners from Eureka to Yuba City to support people facing rising living costs and food insecurity.

In Sacramento, the Center of Hope Shelter continues a tradition of more than 40 years of Thanksgiving hospitality. On Thursday, November 27, the shelter at 1200 N B Street will start meal preparation at 5:00 a.m. Staff and volunteers will cook around 500 hot meals with all the usual trimmings. Meal service begins at 11:00 a.m., with outdoor seating and grab-and-go options for people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship. The event also connects guests with shelter services and other ongoing support.

Auburn, just up the highway from Folsom, will host a community Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 27, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Auburn Corps, 286 Sutter Street. The corps plans a restaurant-style holiday feast, with dine-in and limited take-out options, and warm fellowship between neighbors and volunteers. No reservation is required, and everyone is welcome.

The Salvation Army also operates corps in nearby Roseville and Rancho Cordova, serving South Placer County and eastern Sacramento County communities year-round, though Thanksgiving event details for those locations were not included in this announcement. Attendees can expect a warm Thanksgiving meal with dine-in or carry out options as well as fellowship among neighbors and volunteers. Anyone is welcome and there is no registration required.

Rancho Cordova will not have its own meal service this year, instead, the meal at Center of Hope in Sacramento is designed to cover Sacramento County.

In Eureka, the Eureka Corps will hold a community Thanksgiving luncheon on Monday, November 24, offering a freshly prepared meal, family-friendly dine-in setting and volunteer-led table service.

On Thursday, November 27, the Garden Street Family Shelter will serve a hot Thanksgiving meal for families experiencing homelessness, with volunteers and corps staff offering holiday music and support.

Chico Corps plans a Thanksgiving community dinner on Wednesday, November 26, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at 567 E. 16th Street, with turkey, trimmings and a family-friendly atmosphere, plus limited to-go meals.

Meeting Human Need During The Holiday Season

The Salvation Army’s Del Oro Division, based in Sacramento, oversees programs in 30 counties from the Central Valley to the Oregon border. Its services include food and shelter, disaster relief, childcare, workforce development and seasonal assistance, tailored to local needs.

The organization states that its mission is to “meet human need without discrimination wherever it exists,” and says these Thanksgiving gatherings reflect that goal by offering food, fellowship and information on longer-term support.
