Shortly after ten o’clock last night Folsom police officers responded to the report of gun shots being fired in the 400 block of Turnpike Drive. Upon their arrival they located seven .25 caliber shell casings on the street, but no victims or suspects were located. A white Mercedes was seen leaving the area towards Blue Ravine Road.
Twenty minutes after the initial report, an officer located the suspect vehicle traveling on East Bidwell Street at Oak Avenue Parkway. After a brief investigation, the officer was able to link the vehicle and it’s occupants to the shooting on Turnpike Drive.
During a search of the vehicle incident to the driver’s arrest, officers located Cocaine, Ecstasy, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, digital scales, and packaging material. The driver, Jeffrey Jurgens, 19, of Citrus Heights, was arrested for possession of narcotics with the intent to sell.
Further investigation resulting from the vehicle stop led officers to a home in the 100 block of John Henry Circle Folsom. On John Henry Circle officers conducted a probation search of resident Dustin Paiz, 22 years of age. During the search of Paiz’s residence officers located more marijuana, a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a shotgun.
Paiz was arrested as being a felon in possession of firearms, possession of a narcotic (illegal prescription), possession of an illegal weapon (nunchakus), and assault with a deadly weapon. Due to Paiz’s medicinal recommendation (for the marijuana) he was not charged with possession of the drug.
It is believed the shooting stemmed from a narcotic transaction between the parties in which one half was unhappy with the result. The .25 caliber handgun located in Paiz’s possession was linked to the shooting through suspect statements.
Paiz and Jurgens were transported to the Sacramento County Jail where they were booked on the aforementioned charges. Paiz is being held in lieu of $95,000 and Jurgens is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
